Appendix G: Upgrading Autodesk Inventor files

When an Autodesk Inventor upgrade is deployed, all Autodesk Inventor files from the lowest assembly levels to the highest must also be upgraded to the latest version. This is necessary to prevent version conflicts from occurring during actions performed by the Autodesk Inventor link of Meridian Enterprise that uses Autodesk Inventor components. For a procedure for upgrading the files using the Inventor Migration Tool that is included with Meridian Enterprise, see the BlueCielo Meridian Enterprise User's Guide.

However, if you perform the procedure, the upgraded files will be detected by the Meridian Global Collaboration Framework and will be replicated to the collaborating sites. If you upgrade many Inventor files, this can take a long time during which no changes can be made to the upgraded files on any collaborating site. It can also require considerable network bandwidth.

To prevent the upgraded files from being replicated to the collaborating sites:

Note    This procedure must be performed at all collaborating sites simultaneously. Document ownership does not need to be transferred. This procedure only supports vaults that use Local Workspace; AMFS access is not supported. Documents must not be modified while this procedure is being performed.

  1. Disable the GCF export processor scheduled task.
  2. Check for briefcases in the folder specified by the InPath setting of the site's .ini file. If no briefcase files exist, disable the GCF import processor scheduled task. If any briefcase files do exist, run the import processor scheduled task first and then disable the GCF import processor task.
  3. Create a backup of the vault in Meridian Enterprise Administrator.
  4. Unlock all documents in the vault using Meridian Enterprise Administrator:
    1. Select the vault and then on the Action menu point to All Tasks and click Unlock Documents.
  5. Upgrade the Autodesk Inventor files.
  6. Restore the vault backup made in step 3.
  7. Re-enable the GCF processor scheduled tasks that you disabled in steps 1 and 2.
